Hello! As you’ve probably guessed by the big magenta text in the header, my name is Dickson Fong. I’m a visual designer at Edmunds, a resource of information for automotive consumers and enthusiasts. This is my personal website, where I share my thoughts on various aspects of design. Whether you’re a designer, a developer, a friend, or just stopping by—welcome, and I’m glad to have you here.
For me, design isn’t a job—it’s a way of life. I think it’s important to enjoy what you do, regardless a job, hobby, or interest. You’ll be happier today. You’ll be happier tomorrow. You’ll probably be happier when you die, too. Happiness leads to better work, which subsequently leads to more happiness. See how cyclic it is?
When I’m not glued to the computer, I enjoy racing my bikes, working on cars, spending time with my girlfriend, and, of course, designing. Usually, my cat disapproves and would much rather I spend my time scratching her nose and giving her a full-body massage.
I developed this site with the highest regard to web standards using meaningful and lightweight XHTML 1.0 Strict and CSS. It’s powered by WordPress and running my own custom theme. The preferred typeface is Helvetica Neue, but users without it installed will see Arial instead. There’s a sprinkle of Georgia here and there to keep things fun. Reportedly, Comic Sans says I hurt his feelings by not inviting him to the party.
Several WordPress plugins are used to enhance functionality and aesthetics, including Rob Marsh’s Recent Posts, Mark Jaquith’s Subscribe to Comments, Reader Appreciation Project’s WP Ajax Edit Comments, and Hamish Macpherson’s wp-typogrify. I thank them for sharing their wonderful work.
